When each person loves the other as much as themselves, it makes one out of many.

Our HerStory and Our Why:

On August 18th, 2019, nine young women came for what they thought was an innocent gathering for boss babes to brunch together at Tiffany’s apartment at Temple University. That event would change all of their lives in ways they had never considered, and manifest a vision that before this was only things each of the women imagined. Each lady walked away, inspired, motivated, and yearning to do more. Bosses Give Back was a name decided collectively at the brunch, to embody the way the women felt about themselves and the work intended to be done in the community.

With each founding member having a focused area of service she wanted to perform, the Babes saw fit to create an organization that could serve as their platform to help. Communities and areas of intent include — closing the food insecurity gap, the homeless population, underserved neighborhood revitalization, prison rehabilitation, and educating the youth.

To be a Boss, you must first give back, so combining the two: Bosses Give Back, fondly referred to as “BGB” was born.

Statement from the Founder

After receiving from my mentor, Shaleah Sutton in early 2019 that God was going to multiply the works of my hands, I finally know what she meant in hindsight. Bosses Give Back has become what Kyla L.- Nelson fondly calls my “passion project” and exists to perform what I strive to do every day, and that is help people. This is an example of an avocation into a vocation, and I am eager to see the impact and reach of this organization — with the help of some of my closest sister-friends. Sisterhood is very dear to me, and when starting BGB, the Babes and I agreed to be a female-led organization that celebrates and acknowledges sisterhood. Looking ahead, I am full of joy and hope for the future as Bosses Give Back grows in mentees and active members. Our vision is clear, and with God on my side, I have no doubt in our ability to produce visible social change in our community and beyond.
